Health and Safety Nighmare at A. Gray and Sons Ltd, Glenboig

We all know the standard health and safety questions we get endlessly bombarded with at work, some of the being something like:

• Is health and safety important at you company?
• Do you care about your employees well being and safety?

If you answered yes to both of the above questions you don't work at A gray and Sons ltd in Glenboig. If you do work at A gray and Sons you would probably find the following questions more relevant:

• Would you ever consider using a forklift truck as a human lifting device?
• Have you ever used a fork lift truck as a human lifting device?
• Would you also consider sending the employee on to the roof of a lorry in the rain?
  

Your answer to these would also be yes at A gray and sons as the images below depict. I'm also quite sure that wandering around on top of a parked lorry out in the open without any form of harness is also a breach of Health and Safety, but at A. gray and Sons they don't care as they are above health and safety, maybe immortality is a question on the job application form, I somehow doubt it.Maybe the staff and more importantly the management should visit the HSE and read up on working at height since they obviously don't know what the guidelines are !

Its been a while since I did a post about A Gray and Sons in Glenboig but now winters here I can yet again see what their up to ( if I had the choice I'd rather not but since they wont build a fence or wall, I have to ).

So here I aim restarting my campaign for the winter to get them to

1. Tidy up their yard, some of which they have done but they haven't gone far enough
2. Confine their shot blasting so its in a building with filter so I don't have to breath in the fumes and wash the grit of my car every few days, Confining it would also help reduce the noise.
3. Build a high fence so I can't see whats going on and don't feel temped to jump over mine and start tiding up for them in an aim to reduce the eye sore that is A gray and sons
   

Looking at the a gray and sons website they've been busy over the summer, respraying lorries Ive see M&S again, (they never replied to my letter so, I'll take it up with a branch manager next time I see one there) fed-ex and of course all these ones they care to advertise on http://home.btconnect.com/gray/index.html

but they don't publish pictures of the dust and rubbish they distribute around the place like this:

Would you believe it, it looks like Marks & spencer's those that care about the enviroment use A gray and Sons to respray thier lorries what a bunch of hyprocritics, I sent them an email today so let here what they have to say about it.....

Your website mentions "plan A because there is no plan B". I feel this very supercritical of M&S when right this moment I am looking out my window into a lorry park owned by A gray and sons that looks more like a rubbish dump with 1 great big marks and Spencer lorry parked in the middle. It does'nt look like your company cares for the environment in fact looking at the state surrounding the lorry park created by the owners of it tends to suggest that Marks and Spencer and promoting pollution.

I urge you to stop using A gray & sons now until they do something about their small untidy part of the world.

Shot or Sand Blasting

Now Im not an expert on health and safety but I cant imagine that the law says its fine to do sandblasting out on the open without any form or ventalation or protection to the surround area. Well would you believe it but thats what A gray & sons do.

Sand blasting does create a lot of noise but more importantly when done out in the open it creates a lot of dust and other minute particlues that those using the surrounding are have no choice but to breath in. How can this be safe!

You are probably wondering who A gray & Sons are, they are a signage company based in Glenboig, coatbridge providing respraying of lorries for large and small haulage companies as well as large comerical firms. Recently Redrow homes built houses nearby with a promise from A gray & Sons that they would put up a high fence containing their yard.

As a resident in Glenboig, I along with others in the area are starting to get a little annoyed and fed up of the laid back attitude and excuses from A grays and Sons. So that's why I have started up this blog, all publicity is good publicity don't you think? I and others hope not.

Our main compaint is the state of the yard, it looks like a messy rubbish dump, to the extent that thier waste has made it into a nearby burn politing it, compaints to seepa have been passed and nothing has happened, this company really dont care.

If only they would invest in a fence to contain the site and a skip to throw out all the rubbish they have floating around.
